Expansion

Expansion is essentially multiplying out, or expanding, a product of two or more algebraic expressions, each of which contains one or more terms.

All expansion is based on the Distributive Law which deals with multiplication of one term by an expression containing two terms:


Warning! A negative sign in front of a set of parenthesis represents a (-1) being multiplied by the entire expression in parenthesis. For example,


For products involving expressions of more than one term, simply apply the distributive law repeatedly.
