Week 7

Week 1

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Complex Numbers - All of Chapter 8
Limits - All of Chapter 14

Lecture notes

Week 2

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Numerical Integration - All of Chapter 13
Methods of Integration - Section 11.1
  (to the top of p11-17)

Each week, you should spend about half an hour revising the material you have already covered, ie, for this week Complex Numbers and Limits.

Your first open-book test will be held in tutorials this week. The topics are Complex Numbers and Limits, that is, all of Chapters 8 and 14 of the Notes.

Week 3

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Methods of Integration - Sections 11.2 to 11.7 inclusive   (the rest of the chapter)
This is probably the most important section of study for MATH162, so you should strive to master it.

Don't forget to spend about half an hour revising the material you have already covered, ie, Limits, Numerical Integration and Complex Numbers.

Your second open-book test will be held in tutorials this week. The topic is Numerical Integration, that is, all of Chapter 13 of the Notes.

Week 4

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Differential Equations - All of Chapter 9

You should be reminded that there is a Mid-Session Test on Friday, 4 January 2008, at 15.00. The test will be held in Room 67.107 and only a one-page, double-sided, A4-sized summary sheet will be allowed (no other notes or books). Don't forget to bring your student ID and a pencil (or pen). The test will examine all the material we have covered up to the end of Week 3, that is, Methods of Integration, Limits, Numerical Integration and Complex Numbers. The test will consist of 25 multiple choice questions and is worth a total of 20% towards your assessment for MATH162. Use the break over Christmas and New Year to revise and study for the test (do not forget that we meet again on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 January 2008). For more information regarding the test, see the Mid-Session Test page. Study hard--and good luck!

There will be no short test this week due to the Mid-Session Test.

Have a profitable holiday, a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Week 5

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Applications of Integration - All of Chapter 12

The Mid-Session Test results are available via SOLS from Monday 7 January 2008.

Even though you have now been tested on the first part of work for MATH162, it doesn't mean you can slacken off and forget about that half of the course. Keep revising so you are ready for the final exam when it comes around in 4 weeks.

Your third open-book test will be held in tutorials this week. The topic is Differential Equations, that is, all of Chapter 9 of the Notes.

Week 6

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Sequences & Series - All of Chapter 15

Keep revising so you are ready for the Final Exam when it comes around in about 3 weeks. You should be averaging 12-15 hours of study a week, on top of the lecture and tutorial time.

Your fourth open-book test will be held in tutorials this week. The topic is Applications of Integration, that is, all of Chapter 12 of the Notes.

Week 7

Before this week's classes, you must complete the following sections of study:
Taylor Series - All of Chapter 10

This is your FINAL week of formal study. You'll notice there is a lot less work to cover this week than in previous weeks. The reason for that is so you can spend more time revising everything else. By the end of the week, you should have attempted at least every second question that appears in the study notes.

Your fifth and final open-book test will be held in tutorials this week. The topic is Sequences & Series, that is, all of Chapter 15 of the Notes.
