MATH161 consists of just two formal lectures each week. Therefore, learning in this subject depends heavily on the individual efforts of the students. Study notes can be purchased at the UniCentre Bookshop for a cost of approximately $26 or they can be downloaded from this web page. It is the students' responsibility to read through the notes, and study them as indicated on the Weekly Study page. The study notes are self-contained, and include comments that would normally be made in an ordinary lecture.
The personal study is complemented with the two-hour summary lecture on Wednesdays, starting in Week 1 of session, and one hour of tutorial per week starting in Week 2 of session. It is VITAL that students attend each lecture and tutorial to gain valuable insight into the subject material and to clarify any misconceptions.
MATH161 will be hard work for those who attempt it, but will be very rewarding for those who are dedicated to learning. For more information, you are referred to the MATH161 subject outline (distributed in the Introductory Lecture of Week 1) which should be read in conjunction with the document Policies and Services of the University, Faculty and School (download or obtain a copy from the subject coordinator).
The documents that appear here for MATH161 are pdf files. This
means you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader (at least version
3.0) to read and print the file. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat
Reader, it can be downloaded free of charge from the following sites
(try the local one first):
UoW ITS software page (under 'utilities') or
www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.
The on-screen view of the file may not be the best quality. You
may want to print the documents to get a clear copy.
Throughout the session, the coordinator, Kristina Bendzovska (kbendzo@uow.edu.au) , will be available to reply to questions via email . In most cases, she will endeavour to reply within 24 hours, but if you haven't heard within 48 hours, you may wish to leave a phone message through the School office (4221 3845).
Her consultation time is Mondays 1.30pm - 3.00pm in Rm15.111. Outside this time, please request an appointment by email.
